Kure, Nakatosa Town, is located about 50 km southwest of Kochi City, about 50 minutes away by car. The town is famous for having been described by the late Yusuke Aoyagi as “the best pole-and-line fishing in Tosa,” home to the dancing bonito from the Kuroshio Current, and blessed by a natural environment which includes the pure waters of the Shimanto River watershed. The Nishioka Shuzo was founded here by the Tsuzuya Nisuke in 1781, in the middle of the Edo Period, and now, after 230 years, the tenth head oversees operations of the oldest sake brewery in the prefecture.
