Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden

The Makino Botanical Garden, one of Japan"s leading botanical gardens, was first opened in 1958 to honor the achievements of Dr. Tomitaro Makino (1862-1957), the world-renowned botanist who was born in Kochi Prefecture. The gardens contain a great variety of attractions including an exhibition room displaying the original drawings of plants by Dr. Tomitaro Makino, approximately 3000 species of seasonal plants, a conservatory where visitors can enjoy tropical plants, a garden of medicinal plants, and an ornamental plants garden featuring East Asian plants. There is also a shop offering original goods, and a restaurant that is well liked for its lunch which uses Kochi ingredients.
