Shimanto Eels

The Shimanto River was once known as a place where natural eels could be caught in abundance, and eel fishing flourished here until the mid-twentieth century. These days there are fewer eels to be found, but more and more are being farm-raised in breeding pens after being caught at the mouth of the river, so you can enjoy their taste at restaurants throughout the prefecture. Natural eel is an exquisite delicacy.
