Tosa Mahoroba Rental Cycle (Nankoku City Tourism Association)

You can rent bicycles at Nishijima Flower Garden Park, a fruits paradise where you can enjoy watermelons and melons all year round. We recommend history-based routes, such as visiting the site of the home of Ki-no-Tsurayuki, author of the 10th-century Tosa Diary, or the site of the ruined Hie Temple, which dates back to the Hakuho period (late 7th century), or Mt. Oko, the site of the castle of Chosokabe Motochika who almost unified Shikoku in the Warring States period, in the late 16th century. Going a little further afield will take you to the Saitani region, where the ancestors of Sakamoto Ryoma are buried, or to the International Museum of Contemporary Art in Shirakidani, famed for its plum blossoms. Here in this region, the start of harvesting is very early. Rice transplanting starts at the end of March, so you can enjoy the rural landscape in spring and the Nankoku"s famous square-stem bamboo that starts to grow in the mountains in autumn.
